Protrack Rhino Task Team

WE ARE COMMITED TO DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO SAVE THE RHINO SPECIES.

WE CAN NOT DO IT ALONE.

PLEASE SUPPORT US THE BEST YOU CAN.

In 2012 Vincent Barkas (founder of Protrack Anti Poaching Unit)  realised being behind the fence line is not enough for us to fight this war, we needed vehicles on the road catching poachers before they reach the reserves. Protrack realised there was no way they could fund these operations alone. They asked our community and local land owners for help so we can buy a vehicle. Unfortunately no one could help us so Vincent used his own money to fund the vehicle and gave us 6 Anti-poachers for operations. Within the first 2 weeks of operations, the vehicle after a lengthy chase recovered 21 rounds of ammunition, axes, saws and two 375 hunting rifles that had been thrown from the vehicle they had been chasing.

After many patrols, road blocks and arrests we realised this is the way forward to prevent poaching but again Protrack couldn’t afford to keep funding it... Leigh Barkas (Director of Protrack) came up with a fantastic idea to change our task team over to an NPC so we can ask for donations and run operations on donations alone. Once this happened and we started to receive donations our level of service escalated and we became the Rhino Poaching Hotline in our community for free, due to the funding we received we were able to create our own investigation team and use our task team to follow up on information given to catch poachers. Our long term goal is to make our team bigger so we can cover a larger area of South Africa.
